Group Head of Resourcing and Training

Established in 1884 by Rinaldo Piaggio, Piaggio’s first factory is dedicated to naval production, then to the railway industry and finally to the aircraft industry. In the 20’s the company enters the world of motorcycles and a new company is created in 1964, Piaggio & C., specialized in two-wheelers and compact commercial vehicles. Today the Piaggio Group is the largest European manufacturer of motorized two-wheelers and one of the leading global players in the industry. The Group is also an international player in the commercial vehicle industry. The Piaggio Group is headquartered in Pontedera (Pisa, Italy), and – production wise – is globally distributed with a number of factories in Italy, India, Vietnam and China. In 2013 the Piaggio Group sold a total of 555,600 vehicles globally.

The Challenge

In 2009 Piaggio’s Human Resources Department wanted to streamline the recruiting process by deploying a platform to the Italian headquarters. The platform would need to provide the advanced features that a complex organization like the Piaggio Group requires, but also be easily scalable so as to be progressively rolled out internationally. A particularly important issue was the ability of the platform to support many languages in addition to Italian.

The Solution

Altamira Recruiting Enterprise was initially implemented at headquarters for the group human resources allowing management to familiarize themselves with the platform and develop a computerized recruiting process. The availability of various languages in the platform allowed Piaggio to extend the use of Altamira Recruiting in the whole group, particularly in the Asia-Pacific area where the group is seeing very strong growth.
